Did you ever wonder why you have the career you do today? Did you wake up one morning and say "I am going to find a factory job, Walmart job, or any other job you may have today." Do you like your job and what gives you the drive to go the job that you go 5 days a week? For me, I do like my job but to stay home with my husband would be alot better then going to work at 3 am in the morning. You need to find a job or an opportunity that makes your cows mooooo and make sure that you are happy at what you are doing. So if you are happy at what you are doing as a career good for you, but if you hate your job and are staying in it for the financial mind set, then you are only hurting your self and maybe taking off many years of your life.. So think wisely at the career choice that you pick and give it all you got, and take a chance once in a while because you never know how its going to turn out if you don't try you'll never know..
My career choice when I was 18 was a cheese factory worker, was I happy, absolutely, I was making $7.83. I was 18 and thought I was making a lot of money at the time. I was making just enough to have payments on a car, pay my rent, and smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day. What a waste of money! I hated renting because I was never going to own the property that my landlord owned. I was paying $220 for a one bedroom apartment that was on the send floor. I have to say the apartment was nice for being my first apartment.
When I became 24 or so I was still at the factory lifting 75 pounds of cheese that were in the shape of half moons every 3 seconds all day long, came home tired every day and very sore. Was I happy then? I would say for the most part, for I still had a car payment (totally different car than the first payment) and I knew I had to work because I had to pay for the extra things in my life.
When I was 25, I was still at the factory doing every single job in the plant, even working on the equipment, did I like my job then? Was it rewarding? Was it exciting everyday that I went to work? I would say no, I was burnt out from it all, I wanted change but didn't know what kind of change that I wanted. One morning I woke up and said to Dale, "Dale can I try something new," he was very hesitate. He asked; "liked what" I said, "I would like to go back to school for nursing," he wasn't all excited about it for we were both in full time jobs and we trying to make ends meat. But like any good man Dale said, "Sure if you want to try something else, you should, you don't like your job anyways." I was so happy he agreed. The next week I went and took my SATS and realized that I failed big time and almost gave up, but then I found out they had a class called GOAL for refreshing on the information that was on the test and I took the class. In about 3 months I passed all 4 parts on the SAT that the counselor told me to go to a college and not to tech school and get my masters degree in nursing for my scores were at a college level. But for me 2 year college was better then a 6 year college. So that fall I got on the ADN waiting list for nursing school. So proud of myself I signed up for my generals taking one to two classes at a time and still working full time for 2 years then finally I got into the nursing program. When I went into the nursing program I had a 4.0 grade point average from doing my generals and working full time. WOW is all I can say!! That was amazing for me, I didn't think I had it in me. But I did. I graduated from nursing school in December of 07 and I am happy with my career, but I just want more. I Like helping people and meeting new people, but my life doesn't consume of having a job for my retirement. I personally don't want to work the rest of my life at a job. I want to spend every waking moment of my life with my husband and not have to worry about going to work at 3 am. I would just like to have some residual income in my life. So when I am sleeping, I am making money, when I am watching TV, I am making money, when I am having fun, I am making money and when I am vacationing, I AM MAKING MONEY. Do you get my pattern here, I just want to live my life for me and not for someone else..
